This is a full view of my Green Goblin costume I finally finished back in September. Its based on the design by comic artist Humberto Ramos that was featured in Peter Parker: Spider-Man #44 - 47 from 2002.
I'd been trying for about 3 years to get together a Green Goblin costume. Past Goblin attempts have included Green Goblin II(Harry Osborn) and Green Goblin IV(Philip Urick), but something would always happen to derail my plans. I finally had success with Green Goblin I(good old freaky Norman Osborn), but it didn't come easy. I started this particular costume August 2003 with plans to wear it Halloween season that year, but I had to put it off for the Lord of the Rings costumes I was doing for Dallas Comic Con and the RotK premier that year. Then I planned to finish Green Goblin for Project A-kon 2004, but ran into more delays. Argh! But finally, finally I finished him and got to be the Goblin at Anime Fest 2004! ^___^
I love wearing the costume, but it gets quite heavy after a few hours with all the padding in that sucker and the three bags full of my junk. Constructing was a lot like building a fursuit with a fabric and craft foam covering instead of fur. ~^ I built up all the odd cartoonish proportions with upholstery foam on top of a bodysuit. I used the ToyBiz Spider-Man Classics action figure of the Ramos Green Goblin to take measurements from to help with the proportions. Ratios and equations.... Hooray for Math!! ;D All the armor is made of craft foam I shape with a heat gun. I made the chest/back armor articulated for easier movement. The mask is made of hotglue, posterboard, fabric and cotton batting built up on top of a craft mask. Since I had to make the gloves and boots so huge I would practice walking around the house and picking things up so I wouldn't have any horrible problems when I wore it to conventions. I adore the boots. They jack my height up 7-8 inches. Which makes me very happy, but my feet do start to ache after several hours of wear. I think its well worth the pain though. So... anyone want to scritch and cuddle a big cartoony Goblin? ~_^
